Signal 1.0.1.3 Now Available

This bug fix release addresses an issue with alternate iTunes libraries. If you have pointed iTunes at an alternate library by holding down the option key when starting iTunes (shift key on Windows) Signal will now automatically find an use that library. In addition, some compatibility issues with Windows Vista were fixed that prevented iTunes album art from being displayed. The complete list of changes is available in the release notes.

    Hi folks,
great program you’ve done. unfortunately I’ve experiencing a problem with displaying the album-art downloaded from amazon webservices. With the help of my firewall I saw that the downloads are made as intended. Only the transfer to and display on my WM2003se device seems to be broken, although everything else (time, song title, artist) is displayed properly.
would be great to get that fixed, since I would really love this feature.
    regards,
    j.ek

do we need to download the new releases? I thought the new releases were simply effected through the web interface unless that is all controlled from the server module on my computer? I thought the interface aoftware on my iphone was coming from your servers and it was simply being ppinted to my itunes port to supply the songlists etc.

  3. Matt Stevens Says:

j.ek: Is this for all album art downloaded or does it just seem to happen for specific songs?

larry: The web interface is served up locally from the Signal application that runs on your computer. This way you do not need to have a connection to our web servers (or any internet connection at all for that matter) in order to use Signal. In addition, when we update the web interface we often make improvements to the server application as well as the two work very closely together. If you’re not experiencing any problems with the application you’re certainly not required to update, but updates will include bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features that you may wish to have access to.

i`m having problem with 2 itunes databases.

I have 1 database in my laptop, and 1 in my external harddrive.

Even though I change Itunes to use the External Drive`s database (via the option key), Signal only shows me the songs from my local database.
They play, because I have ll the songs from the local database in the external drive’s, but I cannot play the other songs….

    How can I correct this??

    tks

    Luiz

  5. Matt Stevens Says:

Luiz: Try selecting the database to use in iTunes, then quitting out of both iTunes and Signal. After starting Signal and iTunes again, does it appear that the correct library is used?

Signal reads the setting of the last database used by iTunes, but iTunes may not update this file until it has been shut down after making the switch. You can look at Signal’s debug log to verify the path to the database read by holding down the option key while starting Signal. The debug log should display a line containing the path to the iTunes XML file read.

If that doesn’t help please send us an email at support@alloysoft.com and we’ll investigate further to find out what’s going on.

I am using Windows Vista Home with iTunes and my iPhone and the application is awesome and I am just about ready to buy, but I am curious about volume control. Supposedly it is in the product, but I see it nowhere in the web app with the latest download (9/18/07) and iTunes 7.4.2.4. Is there something hidden in the web app? Should I be able to remotely control the volume of iTunes as well as navigate through songs, playlists, start, and pause?

Maybe I need to do a full restart of the system?

  7. Matt Stevens Says:

John: Try tapping once on the album art image, this should bring up the additional controls which includes the volume, song rating, and playlist options. Please let me know if that doesn’t work for you and we’ll investigate to figure out why.

BTW: The 1.0.2 release includes some basic help documentation that describes the features available for both the iPhone / iPod Touch and Windows Mobile clients.

How about Apple TV support? I sent an email requesting it. It really would make my ATV much more user friendly. I hate having to scroll through a mile long list with that apple remote. Using the iPhone would be fantastic.

  9. Matt Stevens Says:

Barret: It’s certainly something worth looking into! If it’s possible to drive the Apple TV from iTunes it may be doable, but if everything goes through the Apple TV itself things get more complicated. Apple does not have any kind of development API for the Apple TV, so controlling it directly would require some hacking of the device which would limit its appeal. The user experience is not too great when the first step is “hack your Apple TV”.

Still, since there have been a number of requests for this I’ll pick one up and do some investigation.

  10. Eric Says:

Hi, great program but it seems to have problems when accessing songs and folders with quotation marks in the titles. It just seems to hang and not do anything. Would be great if you could fix this.

  11. Matt Stevens Says:

Eric: Yep, this is a bug in the current version. It has been fixed in the update that will be coming out this week.

  12. Hilary Says:

Hi. Is there a problem with display non-English characters? It’s a great program, but I hope this can get fixed. Also, are there problems with displaying album art downloaded from Amazon? A lot of my album art are now showing.

  13. Hassan Says:

I need steps on how to actually connect my iphone and steps on how to use the application

  14. Matt Stevens Says:

Hilary: Signal does have issues with wide characters currently, this is being addressed in the upcoming 1.1 update.

Hassan: To connect your iPhone, start the Signal application on your Mac or PC, then open Safari on your iPhone. Tap on the address bar, then enter the web address displayed in the Signal application window. This will bring up the remote interface on your iPhone. To learn more about how to use the application, please see the program’s help file (under Help > Signal Help on a Mac or Start > Programs > Signal > Signal Help on a PC).
